Risk prioritisation research

JWG analysts are launching a survey and interviewing treasury, finance and risk professionals to define workable solutions to challenges posed by new G20 regulations issued globally.  These primarily include the new liquidity risk, capital and Basel II, risk concentration, remuneration, stress testing and OTC derivative standards.

Our risk prioritisation survey is focused on assessing the capabilities required for improved:

  • Strategy and financial resource management
  • Model requirements
  • Data management and reporting
  • Individual assessment and governance
  • Supervisory review engagement

Comprising of 8 questions, our survey is carefully constructed to achieve the following objectives:

  • Factor out and prioritise the risk management issues facings firms, particularly:

йд Poor quality systems and controls

йд Insufficient capital and/or liquid assets buffer

йд Inadequate stress testing framework

йд Inability to link key information stored in disparate systems

йд Lack of internal governance and communication across risk categories.

  • Identify risk management process enhancements required to resolve the above issues and improve the following capabilities:

йд    Set risk strategy and maintain operating model

йд    Set risk appetite and tolerance policies

йд    Analyse, monitor and report risk

йд    Govern, test and manage risk

йд    Establish risk culture, plans and incentives.

  • Identify the key risk metrics that firms use to set their risk tolerance
  • Conduct an impact assessment of the regulatory requirements
  • Review the firms’ current progress in meeting the change agenda and identify the functions affected.
  • Assess the level of resources required and costs of any capital, liquidity or risk management projects in place.
  • Rate the firms’ data quality in terms of timeliness and accuracy
  • Recognise any issues or inadequacies of the new standards.

Our analysts would be glad to arrange an interview during June and can meet you at your office or any convenient location. Interviews will last 30 minutes, and will be conducted under the Chatham House Rule. Our survey findings will be published in July.
